Professional? Hobbyist? Does the title matter?

Having the title of Professional Genealogist doesn’t necessarily mean you are good at what you do.

Being labeled a Hobbyist doesn’t necessarily mean that your work is not up to professional standards.

When deciding how good a genealogist is, look at their research and not their label.

  2. It seems like more appropriate "labels" (if we even need them at all) would be "researcher" and "collector."

  3. Excellent advice Michele. I'm not a "professional," but I also strive to have my work meet the standards of proof required.

  5. It reminds me when a jealous co-worker decided that I couldn't be better than she just because I had my CPA license!!!!! But you are right, the proof is always in the pudding no matter what our job or hobby is and we shouldn't be or let ourselves be intimidated by those little letters after people's names.
